Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping the inevitable doesn’t happen with their manager after he was touted with a move to Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s stock has been on the rise in recent years, however, after hinting for the past few weeks that his future may be elsewhere, Levy is on high alert for a possible new man in charge in the new stadium. The Argentine has no doubt got Spurs playing in a way that makes most of the regular punters in the Tavern drool with jealousy and excitement at the same time.
His blend of youth and experience makes this Spurs team dangerous and one of the most entertaining to watch in many a year, but they have seemed to come up short when it matters – which is a chink in the Argentine’s armour.
With the success he’s had over the years, comes the rumours and our chief barman thinks at some point one of the big boys will come knocking. Real Madrid and Chelsea could all be potential destinations for the former Southampton manager and Daniel Levy has got to start planning a back up now because in this football world anything can happen at any point.
With that in mind, our Landlord takes a look at the best up and coming replacements out there at the moment…
OUR VERDICT – Giovanni van Bronckhorst
Giovanni Van Bronckhorst won it all as a player – the Champions League, La Liga, the Premier League and the Scottish Premier League as a player during spells at Barcelona, Arsenal and Rangers.
The full-back was also in the Netherlands squad that finished runners-up in the 2010 World Cup, but retired shortly afterwards and took up a coaching role at Feyenoord under then manager Ronald Koeman.
He returned to the club where he began his senior playing career, and was handed the manager’s position in March 2015. Since then, he has won the Eredivisie title — their first in 18 years — and the KNVB Cup with Feyenoord.
