If Wenger lands this £58.5m-rated ace, it could be the start of a new era for Arsenal – agreed?

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty excited at the moment. It’s looking like a real period of change at the Emirates at present, with a number of players coming in and a few players going out.

One player that is reportedly in with a chance of moving to Arsenal is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners are apparently keen on him, and with over a week until the transfer window closes, the Gabonese forward could yet come to the Emirates. It’s a move that is generating a lot of excitement amongst our resident Reds, and with good reason. In truth, our landlord thinks that a move for Aubameyang – who is rated at £58.5 million by Transfer Markt – could be game-changing for the Gunners.

It has been a while since Arsenal have genuinely been able to challenge for some of Europe’s best talents. They were able to do it, in part, with Alexandre Lacazette over the summer, but it’s clear that Aubameyang is in a different tier entirely. Often characterised as a selling club, the Gunners have been forced to relinquish some of their most important players in recent years. From Thierry Henry to Alexis Sanchez, it has often been a case of a ticking clock from the moment that a top player moves to North London. Aubameyang, if he were to sign, would be coming to Arsenal in the prime of his career, and whilst a move away in the future couldn’t be ruled out – he would be looking to spend his best years at the Emirates. That’s definitely a sign of progress for the club.

You also have to consider the implications than a signing of this magnitude could have in terms of playing personnel, too. Signing Aubameyang would put down a real marker for Arsenal’s intentions. Not only could that lead to further, more high-profile signings in the future, but the likes of Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere – both of whom have deals expiring at the end of the season – could be more tempted to stay at the club if they see big names coming in.

The role that he can have on the field could be huge too, with the Gunners lacking genuine world-class quality at present. He’s one of Europe’s best, having bagged 31 league goals last term, and he’d immediately come in and be amongst the Premier League’s best forwards. A top striker can be the difference between a poor and a great season, and in Aubameyang and Lacazette – Arsenal would have two.

If Arsenal sign Aubameyang, it could lead to a renewed period of significant change for the Gunners.
