Over the last few days and weeks, Chelsea have been touted with a move for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker…
Though a move that seems unlikely on the surface, given Chelsea’s rivalry with Tottenham, it is a transfer that has generated a lot of interest in the Transfer Tavern.
Walker is obviously an accomplished defender, and he is strong going forward, so it will come as no real surprise that a number of top clubs are interested in him, but what exactly is drawing Chelsea in? Well, a recent stat provided by WhoScored on Twitter might provide some insight into that.
As per Whoscored, Kyle Walker is leading the rankings for assists provided amongst the other defenders in the Premier League, with the Englishman currently sat at five.

Now, clearly, attacking defenders are key to Chelsea’s system. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso have often times spent more time attacking than they have defending this year, and so Kyle Walker’s offensive threat could really be attracting Antonio Conte.
Victor Moses, who would likely rival Kyle Walker for the position, has managed just two assists – less than half of Walker’s accumulation. Moses has clearly done well this year, but the stat does seem to hint that Conte is looking for more offensively down the flanks.
Chelsea fans – agreed?
