Southampton have made a decent start to the Premier League season, but a couple of poor results in recent weeks have taken the shine off of an otherwise good start to life as Saints boss for Claude Puel.
Back-to-back losses against Chelsea and Hull City respectively have proven that the Saints are struggling somewhat at the back this season, and the follow stat – provided by OptaJoe on Twitter – would suggest that the defence is causing them issues.
According to OptaJoe, Southampton have dropped more points from winning positions this season than any other club in the Premier League, with a total of 8.

This would seem to suggest that whilst Southampton’s strikers, most notably Charlie Austin, are firing and doing well – the Southampton defence is struggling to deal with the consistent threat provided by Premier League sides.
Our landlord had touted the Saints for a Europa League finish this season – but he thinks that this stat will be worrying Claude Puel. If he wants to do well this season, he must plug up this gap.
