Wayne Rooney lifted yet another trophy for Manchester United last night, much to the delight of pretty much everyone in the Transfer Tavern.
While Wazza is clearly on the wane, he’s been a legend for both club and country over the years, which makes reports from the Daily Telegraph all the more upsetting.
They’ve revealed the 31-year-old is likely to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad announced later today as the curtain draws on his time with the Three Lions.
Despite having played rather a lot of football in recent weeks, the nation’s record goalscorer will reportedly be left out. Indeed, it’s hard to see him ever really reclaiming his place after a tough few months in his career.
There are more dynamic options in both attack and midfield these days and the imminent announcement is likely to call an end on one of England’s most talked about international careers.
With many of our locals remembering the United legend as a teenager back in 2004, the fact they’re now seeing him on his way out makes them feel very old indeed.
