Everton supporters have been reasonably buoyant in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side bag a late leveller to earn a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the Reds off the back of successive Premier League victories over West Ham and Huddersfield Town, yet they looked on course for a first defeat under the 63-year-old when Mohamed Salah gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a first half lead. Nonetheless, the Toffees held firm and were given an opportunity to equalise when Dejan Lovren fouled Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box, from which Wayne Rooney slotted home the resulting penalty to secure a point for Allardyce’s side.
Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Evertonians in the Tavern in recent days, and they are likely to be further buoyed by a recent tweet from The Times’ Northern Football Correspondent Paul Joyce, which suggests that Calvert-Lewin and Jonjoe Kenny are close to agreeing new deals at Goodison Park.
