Imminent West Ham deal likely as promising reports emerge

West Ham supporters have been slightly more upbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side record their first victory under manager David Moyes courtesy of a 1-0 success over Premier League champions Chelsea last weekend.

The East London outfit parted company with Slaven Bilic during the November international break and appointed former Everton and Manchester United chief Moyes almost immediately, as the Hammers board sought a change in a bid to pull their team out of the bottom three. And the Scotsman recorded his first win in charge last weekend as a Marko Arnautovic strike was enough to secure a narrow victory over Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at the London Stadium, albeit it wasn’t enough to move them out of the relegation zone.

Subsequently, there have been many upbeat Hammers in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from Football Insider, which suggests that the club are close to agreeing a new contract with defender Declan Rice.

The 18-year-old only made his senior debut for the Hammers at the rear end of last season in victory over Burnley in May, yet he has since gone from strength to strength with ten further appearances for the club, seven of which coming in the Premier League this term.

And following a string of impressive displays, the young defender has certainly endeared himself to the West Ham faithful, and as such recent reports suggest that the top-flight club are close to agreeing a new contract with the 18-year-old.

And given his efforts for the Hammers, this is news which is likely to delight our resident West Ham supporters.

Landlord’s verdict: Declan Rice may have only made his senior debut for West Ham back in May of this year, but his performances for the club this term suggest that he’s been in the side for many a year.

The 18-year-old has seamlessly taken to Premier League football with seven appearances in the top-flight, alongside three Carabao Cup starts to help the Hammers to the quarter-finals, where they will face Arsenal next week.

And the defender looks set to be rewarded with a new contract at the London Stadium, with reports suggesting that the club are in ‘advanced talks’ to tie the versatile star down to a new deal.

And with a deal seemingly imminent, West Ham fans could look forward to some early Christmas cheer ahead of a potentially-defining January transfer window for their side.
