Important Liverpool asset at risk of being handed two-year ban

SakhoLiverpool fans were stunned over the weekend by news concerning one of their defensive stars, who could be set for a spell away from football.

The Daily Mirror reported over the weekend that French international Mamadou Sakho had failed a drugs test after testing positive for ‘fat-burning’ substances and could be handed a major ban.

If found guilty, Sakho is almost certain to miss out on France’s European Championship campaign on home soil and the former Paris Saint-Germain defender could be slapped with a two-year ban.

That is the maximum punishment that can be given for breaching such rules but it’s unlikely Sakho would be absent for that much, with team-mate Kolo Toure being handed a six-month ban whilst playing for Manchester City in 2011.

Liverpool don’t need to worry about more severe punishments though as at least one more player must fail a test to see the Reds kicked out of European competition but it’s certainly something for Jurgen Klopp to be concerned about.

Our landlord puts sole responsibility on the player himself, as he feels he should have known what he was doing.

Should Sakho be punished for his infringement? Let us know in the comments below!
