Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have all their fingers and toes crossed, praying for a breakthrough after reports indicated their new boss will step-in to attempt to persuade a key asset to stay put.
The Telegraph reports incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will hold talks with want-away goalkeeper Thiabut Courtois, with the Blues failing to accept defeat in their quest to keep the talented Belgian at Stamford Bridge.
Courtois’ name has been shrouded in speculation after an abysmal season for Chelsea, which could still see them finish in the bottom-half of the Premier League standings, and the Belgian’s head has been turned by Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is set to lead a massive overhaul in the Santiago Bernabeu this summer and, after the La Liga title hopefuls missed out on a deal for David De Gea last summer, they could target Courtois as their new number one.
However, Chelsea do not feel their valuation of Courtois will be met by Real Madrid, or indeed any other interested party, so they’ve set their sights on persuading the 23-year-old to re-focus on his career at Stamford Bridge.
Courtois is well accustomed to Spanish football, having spent two-years on-loan at Atletico Madrid, and our landlord believes the player will seek an exit due to Chelsea’s lack of European football next term.
Chelsea fans, will Courtois line-up for your side next season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
