The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to quotes from their 21-year-old Spanish midfielder, Mikel Merino. The young defensive midfielder has claimed, via the Newcastle website, that he wants to improve himself, play more minutes and be a more important member of the squad next season.

Merino joined Newcastle initially on-loan from Borussia Dortmund before fulfiling a clause in his contract that meant he joined the Magpies on a permanent basis in October. After a superb start to the to the Premier League season, the Spaniard suffered an injury that saw him drop out of the first-team picture, however, on his return to fitness the club had a settled partnership of Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame in midfield playing out of their skin.
Owing to his untimely injury and the incredible form of his midfield colleagues, the youngster only managed 21 Premier League appearances, although he did manage to score his first Newcastle goal and register his first Newcastle assist in that time. There have been rumours of interest from Atheltic Bilbao, seeing as they can only sign players of Basque origin it hugely limits who they’re able to bring in, making Merino one of their top transfer targets.

Well the lad had a back injury. So maybe he can return to his best.
However this is a decision Rafa will make. Do we sell him now &collect between £6/10m or if he had a bad season see that drop?? My point is.
If we can collect a good price. Sell.
