Influential Arsenal man refuses to rule out summer departure

The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern would hate to see him go…

The ‘Wenger Out’ campaign has lost a bit of traction in the Football Transfer Tavern in recent weeks, with the legendary Arsenal boss enjoying quite the start to the Premier League season.

A 3-0 demolition of Chelsea last weekend proved that the Gunners were back in business ahead of a Premier League challenge Рand that has really brought the Arsenal fans in the Tavern around to having Wenger around past the end of the season.

As a result, a few disappointed faces were spotted around the Tavern this morning – with a worrying report emerging regarding the Arsenal boss…

As per the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a summer Arsenal departure – amid speculation of a move to managing the English national team.

Speaking after Arsenal’s Champions League fixture last night, Le Prof said:¬†‘The English game is always full of surprises.’

He went on to discuss whether he was flattered by reports linking him with the England job and confirmed: “‘Of course. But my priority has always been this club. Until the end of this season I’m here.’

This report can be taken in one of two ways.

The more optimistic Arsenal fans in the Tavern are taking it as a show of faith from Wenger, with the Gunners boss keen to remain with the club for as long as possible.

However, a few of the more cynical punters in attendance have taken this as a refusal to commit his future to the club – meaning a departure could be imminent at the end of the season.

All we know is that Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal contract runs out at the end of the season – and as of yet there are no concrete reports suggesting that a deal is on the table.

The England job is still a well-regarded role – and one that the majority of managers would jump at.

However, Wenger has refused to quit the Gunners in recent years despite a variety of offers – meaning he might feel uncomfortable taking another job so soon after his departure.

But – Wenger has now been at Arsenal for over 20 years – and so it would not be a surprise to see him leave the club. Our landlord just isn’t sure the England job is for him…
