According to The Mirror, Liverpool are edging closer to a huge bid for Napoli and Italy winger Lorenzo Insigne.

The Reds were linked with the 27-year-old in the summer, but nothing came of the rumours, however, they may well have rekindled this interest.

Insigne has already scored seven goals in 15 Serie A matches so far this season, and has also amassed five assists, as his team sit second in behind Juventus.

This interest in the winger should put some of Liverpool's current stars on red alert, as they may not feel as comfortable in their place as they have been.

Over the past year, Liverpool's attacking three has been Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah- that was set in stone. However, the arrival of Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer forced Jürgen Klopp to tweak things around occasionally. Not only has the squad been rotated more, but Salah has been deployed as a striker at times. Firmino has come under some criticism, and many fans have called for him to be dropped.

The arrival on Insigne would suddenly heap a huge amount of pressure on Firmino, and well as Mané, as both players will know that their place in the team in not guaranteed. The Senegal international has looked good at times this season, but has still be accused of being wasteful. There's no denying that both Mané and Firmino have the quality to keep hold of their places, but it would just be a warning from Klopp that neither are as safe as they thought they were.
