Arsenal fans hoping for a swift end to a turbulent season have had to deal with a wealth of transfer speculation concerning exits from their club but it’s now reported two well-known members of the team do not want to leave.
The Evening Standard states England duo Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are reluctant to leave north London this summer, despite the pair experiencing very limited first-team opportunities this season.
26-year-old Gibbs, a product of Arsenal’s youth set-up, has endured a frustrating season stuck behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order but he’s determined to fight for his future, which makes sense as Monreal is now 31.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, has been handed opportunities this season but has failed to impress and has once again struggled with injury problems. With the meteoric rise of Alex Iwobi, there’s now another hurdle in the way of his route to the starting eleven.
However, like Gibbs, 22-year-old Oxlade Chamberlain would prefer to stay at Arsenal and prove his worth, amidst reports that indicate the club are not happy with his stagnated growth in ability since arriving at the club from Southampton.
As part of a promising ‘British core’ that Arsene Wenger assembled a few years ago, Arsenal will have expected a lot more from this duo but there is still plenty of time for them to prove their worth.
