Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic about their summer, although the latest piece of gossip has left them slightly concerned.
The Manchester Evening News says Juan Mata’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with the Spaniard having two-years remaining on the contract he signed when he joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2014.
Mata, a fan-favourite at Manchester United, is keen to stay with the club but he has a turbulent relationship with the favourite to succeed Louis Van Gaal as manager of the club this summer, Jose Mourinho.
However, Mata’s future is uncertain whoever the next manager is and he could find himself out of the starting spots if Van Gaal sees out the remainder of his contract, as he’s keen to inject some pace into his side’s attack.
Mata thrives in a number ten role, with the freedom to provide an impact in the game, but struggles when he’s forced to adopt a wide position and become a more tactical player, which may prove to be his downfall.
Our landlord feels that, should he leave, Mata’s most likely destination would be a return to his homeland, with a number of Spanish clubs eyeing his services.
United fans, would Mata be a major loss or is he expendable? Let us know in the comments below!
