With little left to play for in the current campaign for Bournemouth, the south coast club can begin to look towards next season.
And they appear to be doing just that, with Football Insider reporting a move for Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips is in the pipeline.
Any potential signing of the 23-year-old, though, could have ramifications for someone presently in the Cherries squad such as Dan Gosling.
Having been brought in for big money and performed well this term, Jefferson Lerma is unlikely to be the player to lose his midfield spot should Phillips arrive at the Vitality Stadium.
Rather, Phillips would probably be coming in to partner the Colombia international, leaving Gosling as the likely casualty.
Since joining Bournemouth back in 2014, the Englishman has gone on to become a good servant for the club, helping them win promotion to the Premier League and remain there.
But at 29 and, having already found himself in a battle with Lewis Cook for place in the middle of the park before he picked up a knee injury, Gosling could be in real trouble if Phillips ends up joining the Cherries.
With Eddie Howe also a fan of using a five-man defence, the above is not a given. As he has done under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds this season, Phillips could easily slot in at the back for Bournemouth.
If that is not what Howe has planned, though, then Gosling should be fearing the worst as far as playing time goes.
