Iran’s £10.8m-rated forward would be a cult-hero for Newcastle United if they were to land him

Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see some new faces arrive at St. James’ Park to help qualify for Europe next year.

Rafael Benitez guided the Magpies to tenth in the Premier League following their title-winning season in the Championship. Given the lack of investment in the playing squad, a top-half finish is extremely respectable. Our regulars reckon the club are a few key signings away from challenging for Europe.

The Spaniard will be desperate to bolster his forward line with the Magpies struggling for goals last season. Only Azoye Perez (10) entered double figures for goals with Dwight Gayle and Joselu failing to impress the Tyneside faithful. To bring the best out of Perez, Newcastle need a top-class winger.

The answer to their problems could be AZ Alkmaar forward – Alireza Jahanbakhsh. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the Iranian forward enjoyed a stellar season in the Eredivisie. He bagged 21 goals and notched 12 assists in 33 appearances as AZ finished third in the standings. Jahanbakhsh scooped the top goalscorer award for his tremendous performances.

He featured in Iran’s opening game of the 2018 World Cup against Morocco, helping send his side top of group B with a 1-0 victory. Some more good performances at the World Cup will drive his price tag up even higher.

Newcastle must move quickly to secure his signature before someone else does.

Newcastle fans, thoughts?
