The Metro has reported that previous Tottenham target is yet to sign a new contract with La Liga side Atletico Madrid, which has alerted the attention of North London rivals Arsenal.
According to AS Adrian Lopez, 24, is stalling the signing of his contract and his release clause still remains at £14.5 million but could sign a pre-contract with a foreign club as early as January, leaving the La Liga side vulnerable to losing the player on a free.
Although his goal-scoring record in the Spanish Premier League is underwhelming, as he is playing next to one of the most sought-after strikers in the world, it is hard for Adrian to attract the ball as much as Falcao, who is more likely to finish off the goal due to his world-class finishing.
Scoring 7 times in 27 La Liga games, the contrast to the cup form of Adrian is very different. Here Adrian has managed to net 8 goals in 14 appearances. Even though the standard of opposition is much weaker in the cup games within Spain, as well as playing games in the UEFA Cup, the absence of Falcao helps Adrian receive the ball more frequently and therefore score more regularly.
However, even though the striker is yet to sign a new contract, Adrian is yet to prove his £14.5 million value. But with the player being available for free next summer, it would be much wiser for both clubs to look for alternatives and with a £14 million value, both clubs should easily find a striker with just a good record lurking in the leagues of Europe for the same value too.
