Is Gouffran Really The Man To Spark QPR Into Life?

Queens Park Rangers have made an unexpectedly dismal start to the season so far, currently lying in last place, with four points from 12 games and still without a win. Having spent millions on a number of players in the summer, many predicted a good year for the west Londoners, but nothing has gone to plan at all for them.

Following the sacking of Mark Hughes and with the January transfer window approaching, club owner Tony Fernandez and likely new manager, Harry Redknapp, will be working exceedingly hard to find ways of how to turn around their fortunes.

One name that has been recently mentioned as a possible transfer target, is former French U21 international Yoan Gouffran. The speedy striker has been on form this season for current club Bordeaux, with eight goals in 16 appearances, and as he is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, he’ll be allowed to leave on the cheap.

Current strikers, Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson are already out for months with hip and knee injuries respectively, and with out of form Djibril Cisse the only available forward, Rangers sent out scouts out to watch the 26-year-old last weekend in a victory over Marseille.

With QPR joint-bottom scorers in the league, finding someone with a goal-scoring talent will be crucial if the club is to avoid relegation. If they can pull off the signing of the two-footer and bring in one or two central defenders, Rangers should be able to get back on track.

The new manager however could have any bid rivalled by Aston Villa, Everton and Fulham, who have all been linked with Gouffran in the past.

Although he was strangely diagnosed with a grass allergy a couple of years ago, it still shouldn’t deter QPR away from their target, and with Bordeaux unwilling to let their star man leave for free, the Premiership side could allow the new manager to sign a much needed forward that may just save the integrity of the club.

They face a daunting task in their upcoming fixture at Old Trafford however.
