As if the impending exit of Robin van Persie wasn’t enough for Arsenal, Barcelona are preparing yet another raid on the club – this time for Alex Song.
Arsenal have been very active in the transfer market this summer, bagging the signings of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to boost their attack, whilst Malaga midfielder Santi Cazorla is also set to sign on the dotted line at the Emirates Stadium.
But vultures seem to circle Arsene Wenger’s side every summer, particularly Manchester City, who have taken Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure from them in recent years. However, Barcelona have picked up a couple of their top players recently too, such as Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry – and they could be about to pounce again.
Arsenal’s Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song is now the subject of strong interest from the Catalan giants, with Spanish press suggesting that Barcelona have made a £12.5m offer for him, but Arsenal supposedly want closer to £16m for his services.
Barcelona’s new boss Tito Vilanova has outlined the need for somebody who can play both Centre Back and Defensive Midfield in their usual 4-3-3 system, just like Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets do. Song fits the bill perfectly, and is a far cheaper alternative to Barca’s first choice, Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao.
Song has two years left to run on his contract and with Rennes now dropping their asking price for long time Arsenal target Yann M’Vila, now could be the time for Wenger to sell Song and bring in a player he’s admired for a while. Selling another top player might not look good on the face of it, but replacing Song with M’Vila with money to spare would be great business by Wenger – and don’t discount a move for Nuri Sahin either.Like what the TT have on offer?
