Reports in the Daily Mirror are suggesting Ashley Cole could be the next of the ‘old guard’ heading for the Chelsea exit door.
Reports suggest Cole has stunned Chelsea bosses with his wage demands as they prepare to offer the England left back a new deal. Cole is reportedly demanding £200,000p/w, a staggering demand for a 31-year-old.
Cole has been an ever present in the Chelsea side since his arrival at the Bridge and is regarded by almost everyone as the best left back in the world. But he is known for falling out with clubs over wages, after all that is why he moved to Chelsea from Arsenal in the first place (although his trophy cabinet now proves it was the right move).
Mega-rich and new football powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested as former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti knows all about Cole. They are thought to be preparing an offer which will test Chelsea’s adamancy to hold onto Cole.
There is no doubt Chelsea are building a team for the future filled with younger players, so does Cole feature in these plans? Do Chelsea risk losing Cole on a free next summer or get a fee for him while they can, considering their outgoings this summer some income would balance the sheet?
Cole is irreplaceable. But maybe only in the short term, Ryan Bertrand looks a good prospect for the future and Leighton Baines or Neil Taylor maybe an option for Cole’s replacement, question is can Chelsea afford to risk losing Cole’s experience and quality this season?
