Things are starting to hot up here at The Transfer Tavern this evening after a runner from Spanish tabloid AS updated us on Klass-Jan Huntelaar’s situation at Real Madrid.
Los Blancos flew out to to Ireland earlier today for the first day of their pre-season training camp but former Ajax striker Huntelaar has not travelled to the Emerald Isle with his Real team-mates – leading to intense speculation that the 25-year-old is on the verge of a move to VfB Stuttgart.
The Bundesliga outfit are expected to table a bid of €12 million to Real for the services of the Dutch forward, who has failed to make an impact at the Bernabeu since arriving in January.
Stuttgart manager Markus Babbel has previously spoken openly about the prospect of the player arriving at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
“He would fit right in,” he told Stuttgarter Zeitung.
“He is the sort of quality hitman we are looking for.
“We haven’t been doing any business on that sort of level yet, but we need a suitable replacement for Mario Gomez and that’s why we went for him.
“It’s not about spending €3 million on someone – that wouldn’t help us. We need genuine quality.
“Personally, I don’t feel it is important whether he signs today or tomorrow.
“It is more important to know that he is going to sign.”
MARCA, meanwhile, claim that Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement with Los Blancos last week after the club’s general manager told Huntelaar that he did not feature in manager Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.
Is Huntelaar really on the verge of a move to the Premiership or is this just the Sangria talking? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
