Is Jacob Murphy a good signing for Newcastle?

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern tonight are eager to see how their fresh face will fit into the side.

Reports have come out in the last few hours that Rafa Benitez has brought another fresh face to St James’ park in the way of Jacob Murphy.

The fee for the winger is being reported at around £12.5 million which our landlord thinks is a bargain in this market.

The 22-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough season with Norwich last season told reporters it was a childhood dream for him to play for Newcastle.

There are many pros to signing a player like Murphy.

He has versatility on his side, being able to play on both the left and right flanks.

Combining his ability on the ball with his love of cutting inside to either get a shot or a cross off also makes him a deadly attacker to add to Newcastle’s ranks.

In 42 club games last season, Murphy scored 13 goals and provided six assists.

Not bad at all considering last season was his first real chance at first team football.

As strong as he is going forward, defensively Murphy isn’t as developed as Rafa would perhaps hope he could be.

Along with his defensive weakness, Murphy’s passing accuracy at times can end attacks before they even start but again, he is very new to the first team scene.

Given the chance at St James’ Park next season, Jacob Murphy can play a huge role in keeping the club in the Premier League and their success going into the future.
