According to reports published in The People, Carlo Ancelotti and Harry Redknapp have both set their sights on Manchester City’s defensive misfit, Joleon Lescott.
Lescott has only started 6 games under Roberto Mancini this season, and having fallen down the pecking order at Eastlands, the player is thought to be seeking a January transfer in order to find regular first team football.
The two London clubs are desperate to bolster their respective defences, with Chelsea’s title challenge stalling after a succession of defensive injuries, and Spurs still a little lightweight at the back.
Lescott will certainly bring experience to either side, however question marks still remain over his true value, as City are unlikely to accept any offer under £15 for their man, and this may make both clubs think twice before moving for the former Everton man.
If City do refuse to negotiate, then Carlo Ancelotti may look elsewhere, and his “Plan B” would most likely be a move for 25-year-old Nicolas Lombaerts, who currently plays in Russia for Zenit St Petersburg.
The Belgian centre back is valued at around £5m, and would seem to be much better value for money, making him a more likely target for Chelsea come January.
