The Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are still reeling after the business that their club pulled off during the summer transfer window.
Huge names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba have come in, and left the United faithful wishing the international break away.
However, if the success of United’s previous big money signings are anything to go by – maybe the United fans in the Tavern should hold off on getting “POGBA 6” on the back of their next United shirt…
In the report, United are described as having the highest value of ‘non-successful players’, with €161m worth of players falling under the banner of ‘non-successful’ (p.45). The report notes that Shaw, Di Maria, Fellaini and Kagawa are all described as being ‘non successful’ by their definition (p.45).
Our landlord thinks that whilst Luke Shaw can find himself unlucky to be included, the trio of Di Maria, Fellaini and Kagawa are fair game.
The closest rival to United’s crown is Tottenham, whom fall €23 million short of the Manchester giants (p.45).
The bad news does not end there for United fans in the Tavern, with two of United’s recent signings being described as the two biggest disappointments over the last two years (p.46).
Both Di Maria and Fellaini both make the cut in this category as well (p.46) – and the United fans are finding it hard to disagree.
United once again pipped Tottenham to the top spot, with the signings of both Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela coming 3rd and 3th on the list respectively (p.46).
One particularly vocal United fan dropped a joke about United always finishing above Tottenham, but our bar staff have reminded him that this isn’t a title that United really want…
Ed Woodward has had a fair bit of stick in the Tavern in recent months, and our landlord thinks that this report confirms the fact. There have been some really shocking United signings in recent years…
