The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling rather excited about the arrival of Nemanja Matic…
The Red Devils confirmed a deal for the Serbian on Monday, and the fans in the pub have spent the time since discussing just how he is going to fit into the first team.
Of course, Nemanja Matic is well known for his qualities in the defensive third, and particularly alongside the likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, he will likely be expected to sit back and help aid the Man Utd defensive line.
However, Sky Sports have revealed an interesting tidbit from Matic’s final season at Chelsea that seems to suggest that Man Utd have gotten themselves a whole lot more than a defensive midfielder. It is noted that the 7 assists that Matic earned last season in the Premier League was more than any Man Utd player – despite the fact that he played in defensive midfield all season long.
His offensive contribution went unnoticed at Stamford Bridge, but the Serbian clearly has a lot in his locker, and whilst Antonio Conte didn’t appreciate it – Jose Mourinho certainly will.
Nemanja Matic is sure to be a success at Man Utd this season. The Serbian was a star for Chelsea last year, and whilst N’Golo Kante received all of the plaudits, Matic assisted him constantly along the way.
His wiry frame makes him a real presence at the back, and whilst the Man Utd defence struggled last season, he will make their job a lot easier in the coming campaign.
This stat, though, seems to suggest that he will also have a big impact going forward too.
