Is this proof that Mourinho’s decision to sell Memphis Depay is a good decision?

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are confident that a deal to take Memphis Depay to Lyon is going to be completed…

According to the BBC, Man Utd and Lyon have agreed a fee for Depay – with a deal now looking inevitable.

Signed in 2015 by Louis van Gaal, Depay was coming off the back of an excellent season in his native Netherlands, and was expected to continue to impress in the Premier League.

However, after a few poor performances he lost his place – and he has never really regained it. His role in the first team has diminished even more under Jose Mourinho, to the point where he has hardly played this season – with his career at Man Utd undoubtedly defined by an inability to impress.

Despite the proposed deal, however, there are still some Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern who believe that Depay is underrated and should be given a chance. After all, he is still young – so does Depay still deserve to have a chance in the first team?

Well, if you believe facts and figures – the answer simply must be no. As confirmed by OptaJoe on Twitter, Depay is closing in on 900 minutes of football without an assist or a goal – suggesting that Jose Mourinho’s decision to firstly bench, and now sell the Dutchman is a wise move.

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are shocked at this, and it has made many reconsider their views on Depay.

In truth, our landlord thinks that Depay made the move to England too soon – and a spell away from the spotlight should allow him to regain his form and reach his potential.
