They took a while to show themselves, but finally they have reared there ugly heads (some of them literally) to be able to genuinely claim to be the most hated team in the country.
Here’s a few clues. They come from Manchester, have foreign owners, spend lots of money, never win anything, haven’t won anything for years, and probably won’t win anything for years either. No, it’s not Man Utd, no it’s not Man Utd Reserves, it’s the third most successful team in Manchester, it is of course, Man City.
After their brief sojourn into the football league, they have come back to the big-time, generally embarrassing themselves along the way.
There was Stuart Pearce, Kevin Keegan, Sven, Mark Hughes and now Mancini. They’ve changed owners, players, grounds and now apparently they want to buy their way to the title.
There’s a selection of players who could conceivably be accused of being disloyal, ‘Judas’, if you like. Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry, James Milner and Carlos Tevez, funnily enough the same players who, among others, embarrassed themselves for England recently and the same Carlos Tevez who has stated that he will leave England and doesn’t like football because of the people and money that is now involved. Mmm, really Carlos?
They have players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Mario Balotelli and Yaya Toure, all people you’d just love to go for a drink with as they seem like they are all really nice people.
As a club that has never really been successful and has now become garish and crass due to the obscene amounts of money they have at their disposal, Man City are without doubt the most hated team in the country. Aren’t they?
