The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling rather excited at the moment. Though it’s been a tough season so far for the Reds, it’s clear that things are beginning to improve at Anfield. They’ve had a few decent results in recent weeks, and the impending return of a few very important players has left fans feeling jubilant.
Perhaps the most significant of these returns is Adam Lallana. Lallana has now returned to training at Melwood, and he looks on course for an imminent return. He has, of course, been missing for a while now, having picked up a thigh injury in August.
His return is undoubtedly going to generate a lot of excitement at Anfield, and there have been fans in the Transfer Tavern calling for him to start this weekend against Southampton. Our landlord, though, isn’t so sure. To the contrary, he thinks that starting the Englishman could prove to be a massive error in judgement from Jurgen Klopp.
Lallana, as noted, hasn’t played over the last few months, and that’s going to have an impact on a few things. Perhaps most notably, his fitness levels are not going to be up to par. It’s one thing being free of injury, but being physically fit is something entirely different, and this isn’t something that Klopp can take lightly. What’s more, he also isn’t familiar with how the Reds have been playing this season, and discovering that is going to take a while for the Englishman.
Our landlord thinks that a role from the bench would make a lot more sense. He thinks that not only will this allow more of a slow transition back into the fold, but it will also give his teammates a chance to prove their worth in the team – rather than just inserting Lallana back into the fold immediately.
It’s obviously very exciting to have Lallana back, but Klopp needs to be careful – agreed?
