Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited that the Premier League season has finally come to an end following a dismal 2017/18 campaign.
Sam Allardyce took over from Ronald Koeman in November and guided the Blues to seven-game unbeaten run including five clean sheets. Despite steadying the ship at Goodison Park, performances have left fans disillusioned with fan protests calling for an end to Allardyce’s reign. However, the former England manager expects to remain at the helm after signing a two-year deal with the club.
The summer transfer window is a pivotal period for the Toffees after the failures of last season’s transfers. They invested heavily into the squad, but many of the new recruits have failed to hit the ground running. Defence will be a crucial area that needs strengthening with Phil Jagielka approaching the end of his career and Ashley Williams enduring a torrid season.
To bolster their back line, Everton should make a move for Stoke defender – Bruno Martins Indi – who is valued at £9.9m by Transfermarkt. Following the Potters’ relegation to the Championship, the former Porto defender could be available on the cheap.
The Dutchman impressed during his time with Feyenoord and Porto and is still only 26-years-old. Martins Indi has the best years of his career ahead of him and has been one of the few shining lights in a poor Stoke side.
A commanding defender, who can also play at left-back would be an excellent option for the Toffees to have next season.
