It looks like Liverpool will regret not signing this England under-21 star over the summer

Liverpool have gotten off to a superb start to the Premier League season, winning all four games and looking every bit the title challenger so far.

The Reds made a host of summer signings to build on what was already an impressive squad following last season’s excellent campaign, and the likes of Keita, Alisson, and Shaqiri appear to have slotted straight in, with Fabinho patiently waiting in the wings for his chance in the midfield.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be delighted with how things are going, but here at the Transfer Tavern, we feel like the club have missed out on a top talent in James Maddison, who joined Leicester City in the summer for a fee of just over £20m.

The impressive Englishman has looked superb in his opening few weeks as a Premier League player, making the step up from Championship with minimal fuss, and already looking he is the man to replace Riyad Mahrez, who joined Manchester City in the summer.

For Liverpool, it looks to be an opportunity missed. Money was never going to be an issue for the Reds, and with the fee Maddison went for, it’s looking like a bargain buy could well have been missed by Klopp and co.

With the likes of Adam Lallana struggling to overcome injury, Liverpool could well have done with someone else who slots in as a natural ‘number 10’, and Maddison could well have been that man.

Liverpool fans, what do you think? Should you have signed Maddison? Let us know in the comments!
