Jurgen Klopp has gotten the best out of his Liverpool squad this season, and that’s been reflected by their rise up the table. The Reds look set to challenge for the title this season, with the team getting better year after year.
It’s not just Klopp, however, that is improving players tied down to contracts at Liverpool. Indeed, another Anfield man that’s looked good is Harry Wilson – who is currently away at Derby.
He’s on a season-long loan, and he’s looked tremendous. He’s scored 7 league goals, and he’s emerged as one of Frank Lampard’s most important players.
Significantly, then, when Frank Lampard confirmed that there’s a recall clause in his loan, that has led to talk about the prospect of him returning to Anfield in January.
After all, Wilson has been a regular at Derby this year. He’s made 15 league appearances, and he’s a key man under Lampard. He’s a player that is still developing, and regular minutes are crucial to that development. The fact of the matter is that he simply wouldn’t get the time on the pitch at Anfield that he would need, and so whilst an extra body may be important in the short-term, it would cost Liverpool in the long-term.
Furthermore, you have to ask the question, is he really needed? The Reds have the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and even forgotten players like Lazar Markovic. Is Wilson actually going to get minutes? It’s not as if the Reds are lacking depth.
Simply put, Wilson is at the best place for him at present, and to bring him back would be a huge waste of talent.
