It’s been a mixed season for Everton and manager Ronald Koeman, who secured European football but saw their campaign fizzle out with a poor run of results.
The Toffees are entering a new era in their history and it’s clear that there’s a lot of work to do over the coming months. But should Koeman bring in some quality players and keep hold of some of the bigger stars currently on the ranks, they could be set for even more success next time out.
But one of the big lines coming out of Merseyside today is the fact the Toffees could be set to move for Wayne Rooney.
According to the Metro, Rooney could be used as a makeweight in any potential deal for Romelu Lukaku, who rejected the offer of a new deal earlier this season.
United are desperate for attacking reinforcements having seen star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffer a long-term injury towards the end of last season. Lukaku might not be everyone’s favourite forward but he’s a striker that’s proven at this level.
But any move for the Belgian could depend on whether Everton want to see Wayne Rooney back at Goodison Park and it’s surprising that some Toffees supporters both here in the pub and online are divided about any potential move for the former England star.
So with that in mind, here’s the best of the fallout from Twitter today…
Problem getting Rooney would be cash, we won't make any money on Rooney, going to be worth nothing to clubs after us because he's finished

Yes, I'm sure Everton are dying for Wayne Rooney in 2017.
If I was Everton I would bid for Rooney

Unless it's £90m plus Rooney then no.
