Italian ace on Manchester United’s radar

marchisio.jpgThe Football Transfer Tavern punters were surprised to read on talkSPORT that Manchester United are lining up a move for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants a long-term partner for the impressive Michael Carrick in the heart of the United midfield after the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson have failed to live up to their billing.

Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs have filled in at times but next season could be a different story and Ferguson will not want to continue playing defender Phil Jones in the combative midfield role.

Marchisio still has three years remaining on his current deal in Turin and so the newly crowned Premier League champions may have to cough up in excess of £15 million to get their man.

The 27-year-old Italian international came through the youth ranks at Juventus and has been with the club since a young boy, but a new challenge in the Premier League could prove an attractive proposition.

Will Marchisio allow one of their stars to link up with Manchester United? Rate this rumour below.
