A story has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern that has caught everyones attention, with sources at The Express reporting that Italian giants AC Milan could be prepared to make an offer for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
The Serb has missed a substantial part of the last two seasons with injury, and with new manager David Moyes being linked with a move for Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay, Vidic could be seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
The player himself is thought to be interested in a fresh challenge, and Milan are keen to pair the experienced defender with Frenchman Philippe Mexes.
Vidic has developed into one of the best centre backs in world football since joining United back in 2005 for just £7 million from Spartak Moscow.
Now 31-years-old, and with with a poor injury record over the past two seasons which has restricted him to just 24 appearances over the past two campaigns, it may be time for him to end his glittering United career.
The fact United also have a wealth of young central defensive talent may prompt Moyes into making a sale, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones desperate for playing time, whilst Jonny Evans enjoyed his best year in a United shirt last season. Rio Ferdinand is also set to stay another season, meaning if Moyes is serious about signing Garay, a move for Vidic may be best for all parties.
