For once, the Chelsea fans and the Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern can agree on something – they are both terribly disappointed that this Italian ace might not be heading to the Premier League.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea are blessed with top quality goalkeeper talent, with David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois between the sticks for each club respectively.
However, having two of the best young goalkeepers in world football is seemingly not enough for the Premier League giants, with both clubs having recently been linked with who our landlord is touting as the next Gianluigi Buffon.
The player in question is Italian starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma who despite being just 17 years old is a near constant in the AC Milan setup.
Now, according to SportMediaSet, AC Milan are looking to make their hands-off-warning more concrete; with the lure of a new contract, set to be issued to the Italian starlet.
Their report suggests that an agreement in principle has been made between AC Milan and the player, with his wages set to rise from €150,000 per year to a whopping €1 million per year.
Interestingly, they also add that a price of around €40 million could be enough to tempt Milan to sell – but our landlord thinks a move for that price is unlikely.
Any move by either Chelsea or Man Utd would likely have been a contingency plan – given that both clubs have established long-term goalkeepers. Mind you, the punters here in the Tavern don’t think either goalkeeper will be with their respective clubs long-term…
Nonetheless, a new deal for Donnarumma will likely keep him out of Manchester or London for the foreseeable future.
He has proved quite the hit amongst the punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern; but if you haven’t seen Donnarumma play – take a look at this…
All that talent – and just 17-years-old! Our bar staff think that he could genuinely be the next Buffon…
Chelsea and Utd fans- we want to hear from you! Would you like to see him join? Would you have him over your current crop of keepers?
