When Rafael Van der Vaart arrived at Spurs for £8 million it seemed as good a deal as the Premiership had seen, with the Dutchman producing a string of performances which must have left the rest of the league’s top clubs questioning why their respective bank balances were not £8 million lighter.
But seemingly forever under the permanent threat of injuries the former Real Madrid man has not been in quite the same form, so much so that according to Tuttomercatoweb Andre Villas-Boas is ready to offload the Dutch International!
Bids of around £10 million are believed to be given consideration, with German clubs Hamburg and Schalke 04 leading the fight for Van der Vaart’s services.
After the addition of Louis Saha in January Harry Redknapp switched formations, opting for two strikers rather than one. A move not entirely suited to accommodating Van der Vaart in the team. With the quality of Wingers Spurs have to choose from it will always be difficult for Rafa to force his way into the team out wide and playing with two front men makes his role as an attacking midfielder or withdrawn striker slightly redundant.
Although in several games the 4-4-2 did seem out dated it proved that the Tottenham team is far from being built around Van der Vaart and it seems AVB is ready to pick up where Harry left off when it comes to the Dutchman not being an integral part of Tottenham’s future plans.
If Spurs could sell Van der Vaart on at a profit that may well prove enough to tempt Daniel Levy into cashing in.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
