Frank Lampard’s future has been a heavily discussed topic here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and now Ross Gregory of The Sun has informed us that Juventus midfielder Andre Pirlo has also got plenty to say on the matter.
Pirlo is reportedly desperate for Lampard to join him at Juventus, insisting that Chelsea are ‘mad’ to let their second all time top scorer leave at the end of his contract.
Many inside Stamford Bridge would agree with the Italian’s assessment, with Chelsea fans once again making their feelings known during the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against Swansea, reserving the biggest cheers of the night for their legendary midfielder.
Despite not being wanted at Stamford Bridge, Lampard will not be short of offers come the end of the season, with reports even suggesting Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to make the move.
But Pirlo, 33, is hoping Lampard will be playing alongside him in the heart of the Juventus midfield next season.
“They would be mad to let him leave Chelsea — he’s still one of the best in the world.
“If he wants to play in Italy I would welcome him to Juventus with open arms.
“Lampard could have another four years at the top in Italy.”
Elder players are often awarded with prolonged careers in Serie A, namely Piro himself and Lampard may be attracted to the possibility of seeing out his career on foreign shores.
