The Football Transfer Tavern is packed today as punters gather around the bar in an attempt to avoid the thunder and lightning outside.
Ben Jefferson from The Express is causing a flurry of interest by stating that Manchester United’s attempts to sign Italian midfielder Antonio Candreva have been dashed after Lazio announced that the player is not for sale.
The Red Devils had been linked with a summer move for the 26-year-old after failing to land Barcelona’s promising young midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who decided to join up with his former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich instead.
Elsewhere, new Napoli boss Rafael Benitez was also thought to be interested in signing the former Cesena man.
However Lazio president Claudio Lotito has now moved to end speculation about Candreva’s future. When asked about the midfielder’s future with club, he quite frankly stated: “He’s not for sale.
“Napoli? They have never called me, but if they do, I’d say he’s not for sale.”
The Italian international, who won his 11th cap during the recent Confederations Cup, produced a series of impressive performances for the Serie A side last season but Lazio instead they have no reason to sell one of their star players.
Is this the end of Manchester United’s interest in Candreva? Let us know your thoughts below.
