The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for another title challenge this season…
The Lilywhites have done well over the last few years, often pushing sides until the final weeks of the season in the hunt for Premier League glory, but standing in their way this term is a rather sizeable problem: Wembley Stadium.
The ground, which Tottenham are calling home this season, has been a difficult place for the club to go in recent months – having failed to adjust to life at their temporary stadium.
It’s a big problem for the club, and even the Tottenham players are now admitting as much.
Midfielder Harry Winks has opened up on the topic, and he has admitted that it’s tough to play there at present. According to the Evening Standard, he said: “It’s just the size of the stadium – it’s difficult to really get that same atmosphere that you got at White Hart Lane or if you have a full stadium here”.
There are a number of factors that could be contributing to their problems, but stadium size is likely to be the main one. It’s a massive change from what they’re used to at White Hart Lane, and that’s going to take some adjustment.
Fortunately, the signs are there that they are beginning to get used to it, and that will have a massive impact for Tottenham this season.
It’s a new experience for Tottenham, and it’s only a matter of time until the turn things around.
There are no doubts about the quality of their team. Indeed, personnel-wise, they are one of the best in the Premier League. It’s just all about getting used to a bigger stadium.
That will serve them well as they look to move into their new ground, too, as it’s going to pose a very different environment to White Hart Lane.
