Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a huge turn around over the course of the summer, with many of the players and the manager, in particular, all fighting for their careers after this disastrous defence of their Premier League crown.
Antonio Conte, it seems is on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge, with many regulars feeling that not even an FA Cup win will save him, despite leading the club to a Premier League title win last season. Alongside the manager, many of the players need to up their game also, having had a poor run in the Premier League up until recently – with the general feeling around Stamford Bridge being that there needs a major revamp of the club.
Our Blues in the bar are looking at the FA Cup Final against Man United as a chance for some players to really stake their claim as to why they should be at the club next season. Indeed, their first priority should be going for the win, and with their best recent form since the turn of the year, this could sugar coat a poor season.
Our landlord, however, takes a look at this player that Conte should be looking to move on in the summer…
OUR VERDICT – David Luiz
The Brazilian has been in Conte’s bad books ever since they had a falling out in the first half of the season, it seems. Luiz’s second spell at Stamford Bridge hasn’t been a pleasant one recently, despite winning the title last year and completing his collection with the SW6 club.
With relations more than strained, this would surely signal the end of Luiz’s second time at the Bridge and there doesn’t seem a way back for the Brazilian with less chance of him helping Conte to keep his job.
