It’s been a hectic season for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool but their fans here in the Tavern are delighted that the club secured Champions League football!
The Reds have a lot of work to do this summer if they’re to get anywhere near where they should be going forward but there is promise flowing in Klopp’s squad.
But one man that continues to struggle going forward is Daniel Sturridge, who’s Liverpool future is looking more unclear than ever.
His contract runs until the summer of 2019 and he’s currently being paid £150,000 per-week. He’s started just seven Premier League games this campaign and he’s hitting the biggest rut of his career.
Injuries continue to haunt him and he’s currently using injections to continue playing through the pain on an injury sustained to his hip- it seems to be the same old story for the former Chelsea man.
But moving forward, where does his future lie?
Well, you only have to look at the turnaround of players that Klopp has gotten through as he’s stamped his personality on the Liverpool squad. Unfortunately for Sturridge, Klopp needs individuals with personality, grit and commitment and even without the injury troubles, Sturridge isn’t showing that like other members of the Reds squad.
But a move away will be tough too. Few clubs will be able to afford his wages this summer and he could be left to rot at Anfield with two years remaining on his contract.
It’s a tough predicament for any player to be in but Sturridge now needs to show his worth on the pitch during pre-season.
Things are only going to get harder before they get easier and it’s hard to see Studge progressing anytime soon, unless he finds the form that earned him a move to Anfield in the first place.
