It’s Not Just A £15M Bid, Dalglish’s Name Beats Wenger’s, Every Day Of The Week

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is preparing a bid for Uruguayan international David Godin with what will almost certainly be his last signing of the transfer window.

Liverpool have already spent around £50m in this window, but have only really bolstered their midfield in signing the likes of Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, and Charlie Adam. Last week they completed a deal for Roma keeper Doni, and having signed both Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in January, it seems all that remains on the Dalglish wish list is a centre back.

Godin, 25, helped his side to reach the final on Sunday in which they will face Paraguay. Signed by Atletico Madrid for only £6m last year, the defender is believed to have caught the attention of a number of top clubs, including Chelsea.

“For Chelsea to still be interested in having me is an honour and means I must be playing well, who would not want to play there? To do so would be a step up.”

But nothing happened, of course.

According to Fanatix,  bid of around £15m is being prepared by Liverpool, however there is also some suggestion that Christian Poulsen may be offered to the Spanish side in an attempt to sway their decision.

Atletico may be unwilling to sell one of their prize assets, however would stand to make a substantial profit should they sell, especially as Godin has only been on their books for twelve months. Whilst Godin has established himself as a regular part of the Atletico set up, £15m would provide the Spanish club with the funds to bring in another player of similar quality.

Liverpool have struggled to identify a solid or consistent partnership in the centre of their defence, and it seems that David Godin could well be the missing piece to their defensive puzzle. The likes of Skrtel, Kyrgiakos and Agger have failed to establish themselves either through injury or otherwise, and the signing of Godin would certainly provide the consistency and dependency that Liverpool require of their centre backs.

With international team mate Suarez having already proven his abilities at Anfield, Godin is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League. Should Dalglish persuade the Spanish side to allow his departure, then this would surely be the last of his signings this year.

Wouldn’t it?
