Newcastle's summer was one of absolute frustration for the fans and their start to the season has followed suit.

In the league, the Magpies lost to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day, drew with newly-promoted Cardiff City, they then followed that up with a loss to Chelsea last weekend.

Following Mike Ashley's criminal underspend over the summer, Rafa Benitez is now under huge pressure to replicate the club's 10th-place finish, let alone keep them in the league.

Kenedy was ineligible to play against Chelsea last weekend and due to that, Benitez played Jacob Murphy.

The 23-year-old arrived at the club in 2017 and Benitez recently spoke about him following the Chelsea game as reported by the Chronicle Live.

The Breakdown

Joining the club for an initial £10 million fee, Murphy has yet to showcase his full potential in the north-east.

The 23-year-old started just 13 games in the Premier League last season and only scored one goal and provided one assist. Such has been his erratic form, that the winger has found himself falling behind Matt Ritchie and now Kenedy.

While Benitez still thinks there's more to come from Murphy, at 23, time is beginning to run out for the youngster. In most cases, if a young player hasn't established himself in a team in his early twenties, then they realistically need to move to clubs to get more first-team football.

Murphy has plenty of pace but his production in the final third needs a hell need a lot of work.
