It’s time: Arsenal really should change philosophy and appoint Rui Faria

Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in constant discussion over who their next manager should be, with many names obviously being linked with the Emirates job one that has come as a total surprise is Jose Mourinho’s number 2 – Rui Faria.

Many of the Arsenal fans will no doubt want the attractive football to stay at the Emirates and but over the years under Wenger’s guidance, this type of football hasn’t paid off for the Gunners. So, perhaps going in another direction will help revamp the club and move away from the stagnated feel the club has grown over the years.

Many in the bar are throwing all types of names out from Luis Enrique to Max Allegri and reports suggest that these two are the front-runners so far.

However, in Rui Faria, they would be appointing a man who has been Jose Mourinho’s fitness coach and then a number two for over 17 years. With reports that Faria has ambitions to be a number one, the regulars feel that maybe the Arsenal job would be too big a step for his first role, though we don’t agree…

OUR VERDICT

Rui Faria would be heavily influenced from his Portuguese number one over the years, although with the amount of success he has had a hand in, surely he would have that winning mentality that Arsenal need going forward.

He’s won everything in England and had major success in Spain and Italy, so his experience is non-questionable.

However, the sticking point would be that the majority of assistants rarely succeed when they step out on their own, but with Mourinho’s bullish mindset instilled deep in him – this may be a different story for Faria. Indeed, it might just be crazy enough to work.
