The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed by the lack of youth integration in their squad this season. Antonio Conte has rarely opted to give a chance to some of the Blues’ most impressive youngsters, with the Italian instead opting to stick with the recognised members of the Chelsea first team.
However, later today against Leicester City, the Italian needs to change that. The FA Cup is as important as ever, of course, but the Blues need to start preparing for the future – they can’t put it off any longer.
There are a number of youngsters that are deserving of a chance in the first team, but perhaps the most game-ready player is Callum Hudson-Odoi.
He has played sparingly this season, but he has yet to feature from the start. If given a chance, the Englishman will no doubt deliver exactly what Antonio Conte needs.
A lighting fast attacker, he’s an extremely positive player – always looking to move the ball forward and create chances. That’s been a problem for Chelsea in recent weeks, with not enough service coming the way of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud on occasion.
He’s also got a fantastic eye for a goal, and given the Blues’ struggles in that area as of late, that could be mightily useful for Antonio Conte.
Sure, he’s not a perfect player. He can sometimes struggle defensively, and the mental side of his game isn’t there yet, but we’ve seen in the Premier League this season what youngsters can do, with Tottenham’s Harry Winks and Man Utd’s Scott McTominay both impressing. Hudson-Odoi could be the next player to make the grade, if Conte gives him a chance.
