Everton have made a disappointing start to the season both in the Premier League and in Europe as Ronald Koeman has struggled to blend a host of new signings and replace the goals lost by the sale of Romelu Lukaku.
The Toffees were expected to challenge at the top end of the table this year, but look far away from that at the moment.
Our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that Everton need to revert to more simple football and play players in their correct positions in order to see an improvement, and one player he thinks could do with a run in the team is young midfielder Tom Davies.
The young England midfielder was a revelation towards the back end of last season with a string of impressive performances endearing him to Everton’s fans. However, this year has seen him underused by Koeman so far.
Davies brings a box to box style of play to the midfield, something which it can be argued has been missing for the Toffees this term, and it would take the pressure of the likes of Sigurdsson and Rooney to go dropping deep for the ball.
As a local lad, he will also lift the Everton crowd if selected, and will be afforded more time and patience by the fans. Koeman is under a bit of pressure at the moment, and Davies could well be the man to help lift some of that pressure off his shoulders.
Everton fans, what do you think? Time for Davies to get a run in the team? Let us know!Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
