Liverpool have been struggling for some consistency once again this season and were on the wrong end of a hammering by Spurs last weekend, where Jurgen Klopp’s side’s defensive flaws were once again highlighted.
The Reds were hoping to be challenging for the title this term following two seasons of steadily improving under Klopp, but it once again looks like a case of deja vu, and the Anfield outfit will need to reach the top four to class their season as any sort of success.
Our landlord here in the Tavern recognises the defensive problems at the club, but he believes they still lack a top out and out striker, and he thinks a January move for young German striker Timo Werner could be ideal for the Reds.
The RB Leipzig forward has been super impressive over the last 18 months with some superb
performances in the Bundesliga, while he has also burst onto the international scene and made quite the impression on that front too.
A move looks inevitable for Werner eventually, and with Liverpool already snapping up his teammate Naby Keita in preparation for next season, Werner might be tempted to follow.
A classy forward with a real eye for goal and bags of power and strength for a 21-year-old, Werner would be an excellent signing for Liverpool, allowing them to move on from Daniel Sturridge and relinquishing some of the pressure off of Roberto Firmino’s shoulders leading the line.
Liverpool fans, what do you make of Werner? Would he fit in? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
