Liverpool fans down in the Transfer Tavern are in good spirits over their side’s chances this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently on a pre-season tour of the Far East and sunk Leicester 2-1 last night in the Asia Cup final in Hong Kong, new signing Mohamed Salah scored the winner.
As ever, chat quickly turns to transfers here in the Tavern, and the latest line regarding the Merseyside club is that the Reds are poised to make another bid for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.
A reported bid of £66m for the player was rejected, but Klopp’s side continue to assess their chances.
Liverpool fans were hoping they could survive this summer without having to fight off interest from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho.
The La Liga giants are suggested to be keen on Brazilian netted 13 Premier League goals last season.
One player who still could be leaving the Merseysiders this summer is Daniel Sturridge – both Paris Saint-Germain and West Ham were favoured destinations for him this summer but the England man is out to prove his fitness to Klopp.
The striker endured another stop-start campaign last season as a result of multiple injuries.
Some Liverpool fans here by the bar are fed up with his lack of fitness and are well within their rights to claim that he is still living off his hit season in 2013/14.
It’s certainly a case for what might have been, but it is clear that the Reds now need to move on.
The England star is a great striker when fit, but remains notoriously injury prone.
Sturridge still has two years left on his current deal at Anfield and in the current market, Liverpool could rebuke around double the £12m they paid Chelsea for him in 2013.
