Jurgen Klopp can’t be criticised for much at the moment. Earlier on in his Liverpool tenure, he wasn’t quite able to deliver the expected results, but now, having been backed in the transfer market and had time to work on his squad, the German is really working his magic.
Last season was their best in recent memory, and this year is shaping up to be even better. They’re looking good in the Premier League, and whilst the real tests lie ahead, it’s fair to say that most are expecting the Reds to challenge at the very top this term.
It’s important, though, that Jurgen Klopp needs to ensure that his team selection is always as good as it can be, and one man that has yet to get much action this season so far is Adam Lallana. Now, granted, Lallana is still getting back to full fitness, and there is a lot of quality in the Liverpool first team, but the Englishman could offer the Reds something different; and that could genuinely help them in their quest to land the Premier League title.
In the 2016/17 season, prior to succumbing to fitness issues, Lallana was one of Liverpool’s best players. He suited Klopp’s style perfectly, with his relentless energy and pressing always ensuring that opposing defenders didn’t have a single moment to breath. In truth, at a point it looked as though the Reds were being built around Lallana – and he hasn’t lost any of that energy or quality since.
His game is so much more than that, though. He’s also simply brilliant on the ball, and he can quite easily be the midfield technician of this team.
Much was made of Liverpool’s failure to land Nabil Fekir over the summer, but Lallana could quite easily make up for that. The number eight position, effectively the most advanced central midfield role, requires brilliant passing, energy and technical ability – and Lallana has all of that in droves. With Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain unavailable, Lallana could be the difference-maker for Liverpool this season – and it’s time for Klopp to give him a chance.
