The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting nothing but a win against West Brom this weekend. They’ve been in sensational form lately, barring a surprisingly poor performance against Arsenal last weekend, and so they’re the clear favourites in the lead-up to the game, at least in the pub.
Ahead of the game, fans have been discussing who Mauricio Pochetitno will call upon when he goes to pick his team. Most are expecting a similar team to that which played against Borussia Dortmund, but our landlord has been campaigning for one major change: the introduction of Ben Davies.
Davies, who is rated at £13.5 million by Transfer Markt, has proved this year that he is, without doubt, one of Tottenham’s best players. Though he started his time at the club with a mixed level of form, he has really come into his own in recent months. Improving the defensive side of his game dramatically whilst also offering a threat going forward, the Welshman has turned into one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers.
With Danny Rose back in the fold, he has had to settle for a role on the bench on occasion lately, and given Rose’s stellar display against Dortmund, the Englishman is unlikely to be displaced this weekend. However, one position that could be perfect for Davies is on the left-hand side of the Tottenham back three.
With Toby Alderweireld out, there is a spot open in the position. Eric Dier filled the role during the week, but he is far more efficient in the midfield, and Davies could be perfect. He’d be able to, on occasion, utilise his fantastic attacking quality from the role, whilst his pace, defensive solidity and concentration will all allow him to flourish.
He deserves to be playing every week, and this could be the perfect position for him.
